Extended Project Idea 2 - Film

- Why do you want to complete the project you have chosen?
I want to make a film as film making is the field I want to go into, so completing a film by myself will give me a lot of insight into how films are made so I will be better at the job I choose, and so more likely to get a job in that role. And this, combined with the Level 3 Technical Degree in Media that I am aiming to get, will provide a good start to pursue this.

- What do you hope to gain from it?
I hope to gain skills in production, specifically editing and general post-production, as that is the field I want to pursue - editing films. I especially want to learn how to use Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, as learning these programmes is important to be able to edit and add special effects to films, which I am interested in pursuing for a career.

- Why do you think it is an interesting area to research?
I'm interested in the production of a film because I think that the variety of jobs necessary to create a film, and how they like and work together, are very interesting. And I also think this is interesting because I am interested in working in film making, and learning how to work most effectively with other jobs is interesting to me.

- What sort of secondary sources do you think you will access?
Additional features of shorts, such as 'How we made it' type videos, to get a detailed understanding of how to create these shorts.Using the internet and looking at books and manuals about software needed (such as the Adobe Premiere Guide), would be useful to learn about how to make shorts.

- What sort of primary research do you think you will need to complete?
Interviewing my target audience to learn details about how I should make the film (length, genre focus etc.) Watching short films of similar genres. Viewing other shorts to gain a textual analysis on how to create shorts, as well as watch shorts of a similar genre to learn about pacing and narrative storytelling in a similar length product. Learning generic elements that can be learnt and adapted for my own short film would also be very useful for the production of my product.

- Why do you think the project is useful to any future career or study plans you have?
I am planning to go to university to study film making, specifically editing, so I think that getting experience in the whole film making process will make this more likely, as I will be able to show that I have the knowledge needed to work effectively in a variety of roles, making it more likely for me to be accepted. In addition, knowledge of all roles will also mean I will be more effective as an editor, which also means the chance of being accepted at university will be higher.
